Project 2010

Project 2010

by Andrew Thomas (00:02 Feb 18th, 2010)

On an annual basis at JAB Web Solutions we sit down as a team and review the previous year in an effort to best decide how to grow and improve the business for our customers.

This year was no exception, and as we started to go through the various projects and improvements we had completed in 2009, it became very clear that our focus has continued to shift from offering and supporting Internet solutions to providing a solid and reliable web hosting platform. As such we have now decided to totally dedicate our company towards this end. To achieve this we feel that a number of changes are required.

Our Brand

With our aim now focused on web hosting we started to look at the business name and its brand, and decided now is a good time for a change; a change that would reflect our enthusiasm and dedication to providing a reliable, value-for-money, hosting service.

After much consideration and review, we would like to welcome you to JAB Web Hosting!

The very last details of our brand are just being finalised, but already we can see the energy and drive for our company reflected in the plans. We are really excited about this and look forward to releasing more information about our new look in due course!

Our Website

One of the areas we are putting a lot of consideration into at the moment is the website and its structure. Traditionally, we have worked to combine all the different pieces of software we use, such as SupportSuite and WHMCS, into one consistent style across the board. This helps us maintain the look and feel across the site and, we believe, offers our customers a more consistent experience with us. However, this has the downside of increasing the amount of work required in general maintenance and also makes the site quite large to work with, especially when we want to incorporate new features or offers.

Therefore another change that has resulted from our review is the separation of our website into multiple micro-sites that each focus on a specific area. They will all work together, but overall they will be easier to manage, maintain and grow.

By doing this, we can bring our customers fresh content, provide feedback on what is happening behind the scenes at JAB Web Hosting (e.g. new servers, services, technology we're looking at, and future projects) as well as making it easier to keep you all up-to-date on our day-to-day activities.

The progress is already underway and the first changes will occur at the same time we change our main website to reflect the new brand. This will involve splitting our current site into two micro-sites:

  • jabwebhosting.com
This will be our primary website and will provide current information about our services, products and prices, along with links to all other sections.
  • jabsupport.com
On this site we will host our Support and Billing systems (integrated so you can access both from a single location and log-in).

But we don't want to stop there. We would love further interaction with our customers and to be able to talk with you more. Therefore we will also be developing two further micro-sites:

  • jabforums.com
As our customer base grows we want to develop a community between you all; a place where you can come along, talk with us, work with each other and find like-minded people.
  • jabblogs.com
We often want to talk to you in a less formal structure, or make comments, announcements, etc. about various topics, but our current system is not really appropriate for this. Therefore we are planning to open up a blog for both employees and select customers to talk about aspects of their jobs and work that they are involved with, and to offer advice or discuss ideas.

Timescale

It is anticipated that most of the changes will be completed by the end of the summer. The re-structuring into smaller micro-sites will happen over the next few months and individual articles to update you on the progress will be released in due course. These will give dates of the changes to the current website (such as the migration of the support suite), and information on downtime while these changes take place. Also, where possible, old locations will forward you to the new micro-sites (to prevent you getting lost or confused).

During the initial re-structuring we are going to be removing some of the customisation we have on many areas, rolling back to the more standard templates. We currently integrate our support system (SupportSuite) and our billing system (WHMCS) into our main website. These have been heavily customised and will need to be adjusted first. Therefore please do not be alarmed if parts of our site suddenly change in appearance.

Once the re-structuring has been completed and systems have been fully upgraded we will then be following through with individual projects to re-theme these systems so that they reflect our company more accurately.

What will this mean to me?

The effect to customers with regards to service during the period will be minimal but the eventual outcome will bring a more manageable platform with improved support, allowing better channels for our customers to not only communicate with us but with each other. We hope that over time this will allow us to share in a much more open forum, enabling the sharing of new ideas and technologies, and allowing our customers to give us, and each other, feedback.

All customers really need to do is watch this space as we make the improvements. If you have any questions regarding these changes, or you would like to discuss any other matter with us, please Submit a Ticket to our Support Team.
